Introduction:

Like any Boot (or shoe) system, B4 Boots come in a limited number of sizes. Our mounting system allows for quite a bit of change in sole size, but when investing in a boot, its always best to get the closest possible size without getting a boot that is too small. Too small of a boot will cause rapid wear in the side walls. Too large of a boot could allow for slip or twist. This page is to hopefully help you find the best size for your horses hooves.

For the best fit, pick the largest of your two measurements for the hoof. With that number in mind, look at the sizing chart below, and pick the boot that your largest dimensio will fit into. As an example, youre horses hind foot is 5 and 1/8th inches long, and 4 and 7/8 inches wide (not uncommon). Since your longest dimension is 5 1/8th inches in length, your best boot is the size #1.

If the hoof has a rocker on the toe, remeber it's the angles of the hoof wall to the sole that count for fitting into the boot. We aill add an animation soon to explain this.

Measuring:

Using the picture below, you should measure from the heel buttress to the tip of the toe for length. You should measure at the widest possible part of the hoof for the width. For clarification the heel buttress is the part of the hoof that is farthest from the toe, and yet is still weight bearing.

How to measur a hoof

In a few weeks we will add templates that you can print out and use to decide the best fit for your horse. In the meantime, here is a chart of our hoof sizes.
